The New Porsche Boxster on show
by Peter Charalambous
The 2009 Porsche Boxster and 2009 Porsche Cayman have made their debuts at the Los Angeles Auto Show, although as usual with a Porsche release there have been question marks thrown at the styling, or lack of being more of the issue.
Despite this, the new 2009 edition still stays true to its original origins of being a lightweight car that is fun to drive, with its powerful boxer engine that has been a revelation across the world and the main catalyst for Porsche’s return to profitability that has meant that the manufacturer has not even noticed the current global downturn.
The greatest developments for the next generation are the technical tweaks that have been made to the flat six boxer engines that have benefited from a redesign which will increase both power and efficiency.
Both the Cayman and the Boxster get an increase in power over the previous models, as well as the option for a PDK double-clutch sequential-shift gearbox that will allow buyers to get the very most out of their performance engines.
The new Boxter will be available in the same format as the old one. The smaller 2.9-litre engine develops 255 bhp, whilst the top S model comes with a 3.4-litre power unit and pumps out 310 bhp.
