Vauxhall Insignia gets Car Of The Year
by Grant Draper
Vauxhall have managed to grab the title of 2009 European Car of the Year with their popular family car, the Insignia.
It was a very close battle which saw the Insignia come out on top overall, in front of one of the most popular vehicles in the UK, the Ford Fiesta, by just one point, with the Volkswagen’s Golf trailing in third.
The Insignia, which saw its worldwide debut at the Motor Show a few months ago, was praised as being a versatile vehicle, suiting niche markets including businessmen and families alike with the range of trims and styles available including hatchback, a saloon and an estate.
Vauxhall do have a history in the event, with last year’s disappointment when their Vauxhall Corsa was beaten by the Ford S-Max by just two points, whereas this year the panel of 59 judges, from 23 different countries, ruled in favour of the Vauxhall over the Ford.
The competition isn’t a one day event either, as judges shortlist vehicles, shortlist again, and again, until they have a range of finalists, with the winner eventually decided in November, and of course this year, that win went to a well earned competitor, Vauxhall.
