Revolutionary seat belt design!

Safety on the roads has increased a huge amount over the last few years. Although safety may be increasing, it still isn’t enough, as the number of serious collisions on the roads is still high.

The likes of seat belts are just one aspect of a vehicle that can change an accident from being a bump, into a serious collision.

Autoliv, a company that specialize in automotive safety are set to revolutionise conventional seatbelts, by introducing a new hi tech design. The design is said to pull occupants upright straight after an incident.

Better still, the seat belt will automatically readjust, just incase there is a second collision. The mechanics of the seatbelt are made up from a pneumatic pre-tensioner which is said to have somewhere in the region of twice the power of a conventional seatbelt.

The belts are already going through a series of tests to determine the advantages in comparison with seat belts already available. It is likely that the new seat belts will be introduced to production cars worldwide due to there quality, some time before 2015.

Until then manufacturers will continue to modify current seatbelts to comply with health and safety regulations.
