Toyota Prius picks up another award

With the current economic conditions and fuel prices continue to rise, consumers are looking for something different. Instead of purchasing big 4×4’s that are no necessary, consumers are steering towards smaller city cars which offer excellent fuel economy and great value for money.

There are a range of family sized cars that offer similar fuel economy to the city cars, but the comfort of having something a bit bigger. Of course, these vehicles are hybrids. Take the Toyota Prius for instance. Toyota started developing the hybrid just a few years ago and it is already a best seller.

In fact, the Toyota is so technologically advanced that it has been named the WhatGreenCar Car of the Year 2009. This has come as a great advertising ploy, it is meant to go on sale less than a month from now! It wasn’t a one judge panel either; the Toyota was short listed from a list of ten cars, of which 10 judges voted on them.

Other models from other manufacturers also showed some promise in the early stages of the short listing process such as the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, the Honda Insight and the BMW 318d saloon.
