Volvo Vs Boris Johnson

Volvo Vs Boris Johnson

Volvo has made a personal attack on Boris Johnson. It is in an effort to make Johnson rethink the format of the current congestion charge. The company has already sent a letter, to which no response has been received. But why!?

A few years ago, Hybrid cars were literally unheard of. Since then they have become more and more efficient and therefore, more popular. The eco-friendliness of these vehicles surpassed that of any vehicles using conventional petrol or diesel models, which ensured that they were exempt from the London Congestion Charge.

Since then though, vehicles have become more and more economical, meaning that the fuel economy gains and difference in CO2 emissions is minimal. Yet the London Congestion Charge still applies to low CO2 and high fuel economy vehicles, something Volvo does not think is fair.

A prime example would be the DRIve models in the Volvo range in comparison with the current Toyota Prius. All DRIve models have CO2 emissions of just 104g/km, which is the same as the Prius. The difference of course, is that owners of the Prius are exempt from the congestion charge, where as Volvo drivers would still be subject to an £8.00 per day charge.

Volvo has set up campaigns on both Facebook and Twitter.
