AlcoSense Breathalyzers announced that they will sponsor National Road Safety Week this year which takes place from November 23rd to the 29th. The company has teamed up with Brake to urge people in the UK to think about what happens to a community when drink driving results in a fatality or serious injury.

It is estimated by the company that everyday 44 people are hurt or killed each day by drivers who are drunk or drugged. The company hopes to encourage people to change their mindsets towards drink driving so that they never have to face the same type of loss.

The week is run by sponsors as well as the Department for Transport and has the backing of thousands of schools, community groups, and companies.

AlcoSense creates small mobile sized breathalyzers that can be used by people to determine if they are over or near the UK drink driving limit to help people better judge if they should be driving or not. It is designed to help people see if they are still under the influence of alcohol in the morning when they head off in a vehicle unaware that they may putting themselves and others at risk.

Brake, the other sponsor of the event, is a national road safety charity that will run a competition in primary schools to educate youths on road safety.

The sponsor is said to have helped prevent 29,000 injuries on the road each year and 300 deaths within the UK.

McLaren, formally known for its Formula One racecar designs, has announced that they plan to make a road car officially entering the market of every day vehicles instead of exclusively racing cars where cost cutting measures are becoming drastic.

The company will build the new road car which is aimed at rivalling the Aston Martin and Ferrari at a new manufacturing plant in Woking alongside their headquarters.

This is good news for staff members who may have been worried that their jobs were in jeopardy from reduced F1 budgets, as they can now simply just move over to the automotive division.
Chairman of McLaren Ron Dennis announced that he is sure now is the right time for the company to enter the automotive business.

Once the factory is built the company will be ready to go with an estimated production rate of 4,000 cars a year with 800 workers. However, despite the fact that the company could produce this amount, managing director of McLaren Anthony Sheriff stated that they will probably stick to 1,000 per year at first until the economy picks up.

The new model is tentatively referred to as the McLaren MP4-12C and will cost drivers about £160,000 to drive home.

The vehicle will be built mostly of carbonfibre which will leave the car weighing very little with excellent pickup.

The engine of the new MP4-12C will be a 90 degree V8 engine with 2.8 litre that can produce around 443lb of torque and 600bhp.

Rolls Royce announced their newest addition to the luxury car line today, the Ghost. While it is not the most innovative name from the company, it does fall in line with the previous recent model releases of the Silver Shadow, Wraith, and Phantom.

The Ghost resembles a mini-Phantom as it is still a Rolls Royce, but will best fit the income levels of those who may have felt the crunch in the economy without being anywhere close to actually being broke.

Despite a lower price tag, the Ghost is designed to be the most powerful model by the car manufacturer on the market yet with a V12 twin-turbo engine that is 6.6 litre and capable of producing 189N torque and 563 high class horses.

While the Ghost can only reach up to 155mph tops, it does not take its time doing so as it can reach 60mph in only 4.7 seconds which is pretty decent for a car that weighs in at about 2.5 tonnes.

It also of course has many luxury features built into it as any other Rolls Royce with all the flair you would expect from a Rolls Royce that you do not really need, but it sounds delightful to have.
For example, the seats can offer a lounge style massage while driving, there’s a fridge and picnic tables in the back, and if you want to close the rear doors you can save your muscle power because there is a button for that.

For driving purposes, the car also has cameras that allow for every view of the car from the driver’s seat as well as reverse path prediction when parking and obstacle recognition. Also built into the car is pedestrian recognition systems and NightVision.

The Ghost is expected to cost about £165,000 and will be available at the close of 2009.

The DS3 from Citroen which will rival the Mini has been confirmed for a release date in the coming spring of 2010 with five different engine choices and many stylistic choices for buyers.
The overall styling of the DS3 will be similar to the DS Inside conceptual model, but it will have LED lights installed in the bumper as well as different alloy wheels and fabrics inside the car.

However, the model will have wraparound rear and side windows, side pillars, and blacked out pillars on the front windscreen so that the model appears to have a ‘floating roof’ as Citroen calls the unique design.

It also will have the same front down to the engines and basic parts as the C3 supermini but will only have three doors and an overall sporty look to draw attention from a younger crowd of buyers.

Allowing buyers to have a say in the vehicle is one key element of the DS3’s marketing plan, and according to Citroen buyers can choose to have a roof panel in red, white, black, or blue. They also can choose what colours they would like for the running strips and door mirrors along with wheel centres and wheel chrome finishes.

The starting engine will be a 95bhp 1.4 litre petrol that has CO2 emissions that are anywhere between 136g/km up to 160g/km depending on if a 120 or 150bhp upgrade is chosen with a 1.6 litre petrol to complete the full range.

Those who are concerned about the environment can also choose one of two 1.6 litre diesel engines one that has CO2 emissions of 99g/km with a 90bhp engine, and one with 115g/km of CO2 emissions with a 110bhp unit.

Swiss tuners Sportexc have developed a new ECU remap that will be placed inside the Audi TT RS.
The new package titled the Sportec Audi TT RS Stage One package will cost consumers about £1200 total and will include increased performance in the vehicle by creating power output of 400bhp an increase from the standard 335bp. It will also increase torque jumps that rise up to 401lb ft from the previous standard of 328lb ft.

After the package is added on to the car Sportec estimates that it will take the TT RS only 4.2 seconds to go from zero to 62mph which is slightly faster than the previous time of 4.6 seconds. The company also stated that acceleration times for gear shifts will be improved substantially and removed the 155moh speedometer from the factory model when placing the new package into the vehicle.

Sportec is also allegedly working on a new package that will make the new Audi more stylish and dynamic as well although there has not yet been any word on the specifications for these alterations.
The package will only be available in the European market, but this is not a surprise given the Audi TT RS model is only available in Europe as well.

The sixth generation Astra which is to be built in Britain will have a smaller range of engines that are more energy efficient than its past predecessors.

Currently, the Astra model will drop the 1.8 petrol engine and replace it with a 1.4 litre turbo that gives drivers the same amount of power but with 15% more torque and lower CO2 emissions.

The complete engine range will include three common rail diesels of 1.3, 1.7, and 2.0 alongside three units of 1.4, 1.6, and 1.6 turbo’s. The entire range of engines will have power outputs of between 85bhp to 180bhp and will all boost lower CO2 ratings than the equivalent past models in each range.

The aim of Astra is to reduce their overall fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by about 10% so that all of the vehicles meet the Euro 5 emissions standards.

Most of the new models will have six speed manual gearboxes and in the future an ecoFLEX option will be added onto the cars as well.

Pricing for the new line of Vauxhall Astras has not yet been released, but the upcoming auto show in Frankfurt is most likely when the details will be revealed.

Porsche are one the few manufacturers that can actually boast about their current performance as far as sales and revenue goes. This has been helped along by the fact that they have recently increased their stake in Volkswagen, where money is also flowing particularly well.

This being said, Porsche have decided to continue to expand the current range of 911’s. The new model will be called the 911 GT3 RS, which looks extremely like a race car. It will feature a huge six cylinder, 3.8 litre engine, which is essentially the same as the engine used in the GT3. The difference is of course, is that Porsche has uprated the engine to produce a ridiculous power output of 450bhp. This obviously improves acceleration times.

Because bigger wheels have been fitted to the GT3 RS, the body has had to be extended. Porsche has had to modify the body a full 9” at the front and 12” at the rear.

This vehicle definitely isn’t for the faint hearted. It will tear apart an amateur on a track and it will make the less wealthy people in the world go bankrupt; mainly due to the fact that it is priced at £100,760.

BMW will be making history if they can get one of their concepts into production. The BMW 320d EfficientDynamics is a saloon vehicle which will have a CO2 rating of less than 110g/km, something that has not been achieved by any other manufacturer to date.

BMW has suggested that they will be revealing the 320d EfficientDynamics at this years Frankfurt Motor Show. Eventually the 320d will hit UK showrooms by early 2010, similar in price to the 320d SE at around £26,000-27,000.

Although both vehicles look extremely similar, there are some differences. Yes, they both do feature climate control, rear parking sensors and a multifunctional leather steering wheel, but the similarities stop their. The EfficientDynamics features a start stop system, energy regeneration and electric power steering systems.

Smaller wheels have been fitted with Michelin EnergySaver tyres. The combination of the two allows for much better airflow, and therefore less drag on the car. Thanks to all the changes BMW have made, the 320d will now produce a huge 68.9mpg and a CO2 rating of just 109g/km!

Of course, this makes the 320d EfficientDynamics one of the most eco friendly production cars ever built.

The SEAT Cupra R is one of the more desireable hatchbacks on the road today. It has strong competition though, coming from the likes of the Honda Civic Type R, Ford Focus RS and the Ford Focus ST.

Seat has announced that they will be releasing a more impressive version of the Cupra R. This may be due to the fact that Ford have recently produced an RS that blows the current Cupra R out of the water! The new model will make its world wide debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

It will feature the popular 2.0 TSI petrol engine, the same as the current model. The difference here though is that it has been upgraded so that it produces a massive 261bhp. This means that the 0-62mph time has been slashed, now standing at just 6.1 seconds.

The new Cupra R will feature 19” alloy wheels, that have an extremely sporty design. But that is not all, they have been designed to hold a 17” front disc at the front and a huge 16” disc at the back.
The speed and performance makes you feel like you are in a race car! The interior is no different as it offers bucket seats and aluminium pedals!

There have been hundreds of models released and it seems everyone Renault release, the more popular the Megane gets. The new one has recently gone on sale and Renault have priced it between £15,485 and £22,785 which is extremely reasonable.

The new model is the Megane Sport Tourer, which comes with a huge variation of engines. They range from a 130bhp 1.4 litre petrol, 180bhp two litre turbo petrol and a 160bhp 2.0 litre turbo diesel.
Of course, being an estate the luggage volume has been increased a great deal in comparison to the old model, now standing at 1,600 litres. Of course this figure is decreased if all the seats are in place.

If you are looking to get the entry level model, then you’ll be looking to get the Expression. This offers all the essentials such as a CD player air con, ESP and of course, don’t forget the electric windows. If you want something a bit more exciting, then you’ll want the range topping Privilege which comes with the likes of auto dimming interior mirror and rear armrest/storage box.
