Default Oil Change for a Saab?

We just bought a 2004 Saab and it is time to get the oil changed. It is sooo inconvenient to get the oil changed on a Saab though because you've got to schedule an appointment and then it takes them an hour. Because of this we haven't had it done and we are about 2,000 miles over so I'm worried we are ruining the car. I've made an appointment and it will get done, but I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if Saab's are stronger cars and so can take beatings a little better than most (that's what I've heard anyway).

it depends on the type of oil being used. the type of engine/car really has nothing to do with it.

do you use a full synthetic? what brand, etc..

Well, my husband took it in and the mechanic said that Saabs can go 15,000 to 20,000 miles between oil changes. Apparently it costs $165 for a change but we don't need to get them done very often. I'm not sure what oil will be used when we get it done.

how on earth is it 165 dollars for an oil change?

if you can't do the simplest of car maintenance on your own...

*sigh*

spend 10 dollars on a chilton or haynes manual at autozone for your year make and model. then follow the step by step instructions *with pictures!* on how to change your oil. it will take you an hour the first time, and about 5 min every time thereafter. oil costs NOTHING these days in comparison to gas, and i guarantee you that you will spend less than 30 dollars doing it yourself, and thats even if you replace the filter.

165 dollars is tantamount to being robbed.

Most cars are equal today, but they pretty much always have been, if you don't take care of them, they break. You dont have to take it to a dealer if you use equal products to service it. They can not deny you warrantee service if you go to Jiffy lube
