Default remote starters

Do you know how much remote starters cost? Press a button and the car starts getting warmed up for you...what could be better? Anyone have one?

the units themselves are not too much. the installation can cost as much or more though. you do NOT want a hack job on the install. i would look to spend at least $200 w/ install. at least that was about the price years ago when i worked at circuit city.

don't cheap out. you get what you pay for.

That's a lot of money. I guess it can be nice, but a luxury I can't afford.

I have to agree with at least the 200 quote. One thing you want to make sure of is that it's okay to have in your area. I knew someone who was ticketed. I guess in our city, it is illegal to have your car running even with the doors locked if you are not physically out there. It's to deter crime I do believe.

Really? Makes you wonder why they would sell them, if they are illegal. Kind of like having your windows tinted too dark.

they are not illegal everywhere.

kind of like a fixed blade knife. illegal to carry here, not illegal to buy.

I guess you just need to know the laws of where you use it. But who really researches all that?

I couldn't imagine having something like this. Wouldn't it make it easier for someone to steal your car? And will other remote starters start mine - like some keys will start more than one car?

I'm pretty sure they do have security precautions against theft - don't have one myself so I can't say for sure, hopefully someone can. I seem to recall a friend rented a car with this feature and he said it was actually harder to steal one of these - not sure tho on if it's true, or how it works - I'm some help aren't i?

I think your car stays locked during the process. You still have to unlock it - it is only started and warmed up with a remote.
