i use a steam cleaner. you just simply spray where you want to clean and wipe it off.

here is my car a little wet still from being cleaned...

You should try not the get the distrubtor or plug wires wet (coil pack on the MKV) they are known problem areas without getting them wet. It helps a little to have the engine warmed up and running when you wash down the engine.

Nice post now i got an idea on how to clean engine bay. I will try to clean mine also.
